What are the Supported Devices for Tap to Pay?

Tap To Pay payments powered by HitPay requires Android mobile devices that meet the following criteria:

• Android device contains functioning NFC antenna and chipset.
• Android device is not rooted and device bootloader is locked and unchanged.
• Android device is running Android 11 or above.

For USA-based merchants, Tap to Pay is also available for Apple devices:

• iPhone XS or later
• Running iOS 16.0 or later

Tap To Pay payments powered by HitPay supports Visa, Mastercard, and Amex contactless card and NFC wallet payments like Apple Pay. For contactless card transactions above certain amounts, some card issuers may require additional cardholder verification methods (CVM) such as PIN entry.

As the Tap To Pay payments powered by HitPay does not yet support PIN capture, you may see higher rates of issuer declines for transactions above these amounts. NFC wallet payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay may not be subject to these same limits.

We recommend you first try collecting payment with the mobile device. In the event of a decline, use another way to collect payment (such as a HitPay Card Reader).
